Assembly of the Kingdom of Bohemia decided after the devastating floods release several provincial laws. Under these laws was built Labská dam.
Firm Berger from Vienna built Labská dam. They started with construction in 1910 and they finished in 1916. The cost of dam was 3 500 000 austrian crowns.
In the dam are two tunnels. Left tunnel (diameter: 1,1 m) is for pipeline, which it serves for dam discharge and for hydropower station.
The right tunnel is embedded in concrete. In left tunnel is micro hydropower plant with installed capacity of 600 kW and with two turbine. The first turbine is a type Kaplan with absorption capacity of 2,4 m3/s and with installed capacity of 525 kW. The První ekologická a.s. has got the first turbine. The second turbine is Ossberger turbine (Banki-Michell turbine). The Povodí Labe has got this turbine with absorption capacity of 0,6 3/s and with installed capacity of 75 kW.
In the dam is also outflow tunnel, it total length is 149,35 m. Bell-mouth spillway flows into this outflow tunnel. Diameter of bell-mouth spillway is 11,5 meters and diameter of tunnel is 5 m. Capacity of bell-mouth spillway is 74,37 m3/s. On the right bank they built also four spillway fields with total capacity of 74,12 m3/s.
The dam is located 11.6 kilometers from the source of the Elbe. That's why the dam captures much water and the dam protects area against floods. Labská dam catchment area contains 13,3% area of Krkonoše.
Dam is a curved shape with a height of 41,5 m, with a length of 153,5 m and with width of 6,15 m.
Surface area of reservoir is 31,8 ha and capacity is 3 292 000 m3. Maximum depth of reservoir is 41 meters.
